  • 1.  VMS recommendations besides Volgistics

    Posted 06-13-2024 03:51 PM

Dear friends. I am expanding our volunteer and docent program and had planned to use Volgistics to manage information and schedules. However, our parent company (a college) will not sign off on using Volgistics because it did not pass HECVAT, an assessment tool used by higher education to assess security risk of vendors.  What other VMS do you recommend?  Though I am "expanding" the program, I will still have under 100 volunteers.  But I am a one-person department so help with managing volunteers is essential.   Thank you in advance!

    Laura,

One of the museums I work with uses Homebase to help with scheduling.  It does a lot more than that, but she finds it very helpful with scheduling both seasonal employees and volunteers.  And there is an app as well.

    Good luck!

    Hi Laura,

StaffSavvy is used by museums, performing arts centers and universities. We have completed documentation similar to a HECVAT in the past. Please let me know if you'd like to take a look and chat more.

    Laura,

I suggest looking into Better Impact.  The system is intuitive (and easy for volunteers to learn), functional (reporting is easy), and affordable.  I have used Better Impact for the last 13 years at both the Houston Zoo and now at Space Center Houston and I'm still a fan.
