Dear colleagues: [indulgence coveted for cross-posting]
A very valuable new resource on solving worker burnout in the gallery, library, archive, and museum knowledge access industry presented by Rachael Cristine Woody is recommended to anyone needing strategies to fix the rampant poor quality of working lives in the museum and related fields.
While, inter alia, referring to Merriam-Webster's 'word of the year' "gaslighting" as one cause of burnout in GLAMs,
Importantly, Woody presents both short- & long-term solutions such as: adoption of "rock-hard boundaries" that can be extended by "work-to-rule" [i.e. refusing to do work that is not strictly required as a part of one's job description], taking short-term disability leave to escape toxic situations . . . [& many more].
Thanks for thinking about this issue that is increasingly evidenced in museum working lives.
Respectfully yours
