    Hi all,

Can anyone identify this artist's signature? It's an oil on panel winter landscape that was found in a SC hunting club. My best guess for a date is early 20th century. This hunting club is known to have had ties with Ogden Pleissner and possibly Aiden Lassell Ripley.

    Thanks for the help!

Hi Cherish, I don't personally, but I know others are going to want to see the painting as well. It may give more clues as to who it might be. Do you have one you can post?

Sadly, no. This photo was sent to me and the sender does not have a full photo of the painting either. I have requested one, though.

    I believe the initials could either be T. F. or J. F.

The first letter of the last name could be a "C", "G", or even possibly and "O"

The second letter of the last name is really killing me... I wonder if it could be a cursive lowercase "z"?

The third letter of the last name is clearly and "e" (right...?)

The fourth letter of the last name may be an "n" or an "m" (???)

And the last letter of the last name I believe to be a "y" that's been partially cut off by the frame. This would explain the direction of the underline.

I agree with your assessment and also that an image of the entire work (even the reverse) would help.  Also, is it in South Carolina?  Vivian

Thanks for your response! This photo was sent to me and the sender does not have a full photo of the painting, either. I have requested one, though, and I'll post it as soon as I have it.

The painting was found at a hunting club in South Carolina and I believe it depicts the grounds of the club.

    UPDATE

At long last, I've obtained a photo of the painting in its entirety and attached it to this thread. It's not much to go on, but I am grasping at straws over here, so I'll take whatever I can get!

    Thanks in advance, everyone!
