Are there folks who conduct professional emergency planning?

You might want to reach out to

    American Conservation  Institute https://www.culturalheritage.org/

Conservation Center for Art and Historic Artifacts, Philadelphia https://ccaha.org/ They help institutions develop emergency response strategies.

The conservation department at Winterthur Museum, DE. https://www.winterthur.org/research-and-scholars/conservation-department/

Very likely resources include Northeast Document Conservation Center (NEDCC) https://www.nedcc.org/ and the Getty Conservation Institute https://www.getty.edu/conservation/publications_resources/pdf_publications/emergency.html, among numerous others.

Any of these institutions can point you to alums or colleagues who focus on emergency preparedness.

Thank you very much for your prompt and professional response.

I have recently developed an comprehensive emergency operations plan for my friends museum and was fascinated by the various challenges presented, especially during the recovery phase.

I have a very extensive background in EM for the past 50 years, most notably as Deputy Commissioner of NYC OEM from 2000 m- 2002; developed and managed a government agency for EM in Nassau County LI NY; developed and managed masters programs in EM; developed a research/command facility for Homeland Security, and among a few achievements

Now after successfully restoring the health of two of my precious family members, I am starting a consulting business in which the field of heritage institution are very appealing.

I would love to chat with you.

I am located on Long Island, New York, EST, and feel free to call anytime

A good place to start would be with some of the Independent Study courses from FEMA, which will familiarize you with the entire emergency planning process at all levels.  Your local municipality, city or county probably also has its own EOC (Emergency Operations Center); contacting them will get you in touch with people who can help you with your particular circumstances and with your planning.  You should also reach out to your local police and fire departments so they are aware of your physical layout in your museum, articles of especial interest, etc., that they should be familiar with if they ever need to respond to an emergency at the museum.

We have had good luck helping our clients work through the Red Cross Ready program. It is actually a certification you receive from the Red Cross once you work through their step by step program to create a comprehensive emergency readiness plan. It is not museum specific, but there are many great resouces there.
