Hello all –
I have a large canvas painting in dire need of restoration. As you can see from attached the images, we have severe problems with paint cracking and flaking off. The painting is over 30 years old and has never been housed in the most ideal of circumstances. It has long been exposed to the Arizona sun, dry heat and whims of swamp coolers. The problem is, like many other small museums, we don’t really have any idea on where to start with this process. There is no dedicated art department and none of our staff has an expertise in this specific area.
Has anyone ever performed a similar restoration process? Are there any recommendations you might make to help us begin? All ideas are welcome, especially names of potential restoration experts and funding ideas.
Many thanks,
Mae CaseyCurator of Collections390th Memorial Museum
