What platforms have you used and recommend for audio guides?

My organization is putting some more time and attention on our audio guide and currently have a subscription to the platform Smartify. As we look at the long-term planning for this project, we are curious what other audio guide platforms are popular in the field. What platform does your institution use and what features are your favorite about your audio guide?

Hi Erin,

I work with NUBART, a European company that provides browser-based audio guides. We use exclusive QR codes printed on customizable cards that allow visitors to access multimedia and multilingual content directly on their smartphones - no app download required

Our system is unique in that these QR codes are non-transferable but reusable by the rightful owner, giving them commercial value that can be sold to create new revenue streams for museums. In addition, it collects anonymous visitor data for insights and feedback and can link directly to your Google account for reviews.

In addition, our audio guides are accessible to visually impaired and deaf visitors with sign language transcriptions.

You may find it helpful to refer to the comparison chart between NUBART cards and other audio guide systems here on our website.

I am available to offer further information.

Best,

Evelyn Crende

Hi Erin,

I'm with Guide-ID and we focus on hardware for delivering audio tours.  We provide audio guides to museums around the world.  I would encourage you to take a look at our website to learn more: https://www.guide-id.com/our-audio-guide .  We offer what we like to refer to as "The World's Smartest Audio Guide".

I also do want to mention that we provide mobile solutions as a complement to our hardware.  One important thing of note is that we capture comprehensive data on how visitors access audio tours in museums and cultural attractions and we see that when given the choice, 95+% of visitors prefer a simple, easy to use audio guide instead of using their own phones.  I'd be happy to schedule a time to walk through the data with you or others on this forum that would like to learn more about what we are seeing in the field.  Thanks and hope to hear from you.  With best regards, Jeff

Hello,

We have been fortunate enough to have a partnership with Bloomberg Connects for our museum guide.  There support also includes an audio guide.

Hi Erin,

I'm a curator at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force. I recently visited the Italian Air Force Museum near Rome (Museo Storico Aeronautica Militare, MUSAM), and I used their multilingual audio guide on my US Android phone. It downloaded quickly and flawlessly, has a simple, clean interface, and it worked without a hitch. Navigation and "jumping around" were very easy and intuitive, and in short I found the app to be extremely effective. I don't have the specs on the maker or version, but I'm sure MUSAM would be happy to share.
