 Protecting Vintage Posters from UV

Hello

I will need to exhibit hundreds of vintage posters in a large, sunlit hall with several big windows. Since our budget is quite limited, I was considering using frames with regular glass instead of museum glass, and applying UV-filtering film to the windows, and possibly in front of our spotlights.

Of course, the top priority is protecting the artwork, so if this solution would be riskier for the posters, we would opt for the more expensive option—frames with museum glass.

I would greatly appreciate hearing the opinions of people more experienced than I am. Any advice would be welcome.

Thank you.

Hi Peter! We recently installed UV film on the windows, and it wasn't that expensive. It didn't just block out 99% of the UV ... it blocked 100%. :) And it cut the visible light, too. Personally I wouldn't put posters on display. I'd put repops on display and explain that the originals are in the archives.
