This was recovered during an excavation of the deposits within the bell tower of a frontier Catholic church. It appears like a square head nail like those used to hold down tarpaper (and plenty of tarpaper was found during the excavation) but it is cuprous and is blunt ended. Two specimens were recovered, both blunt ended and both with bent shanks.

Any ideas?

cuprous square head fastener?
