Hello -- I am beginning to get quotes for art collection storage and shelving for a new museum currently under construction. Can anyone recommend art storage companies in Rhode Island or the surrounding New England area?

Thank you,

Catherine

Hi Catherine,

I've had good experiences with Montel. For Rhode Island, try their rep at https://www.montel.com/en/distributors/rhode-island-mobile-shelving-rhode-island-mobile-storage.

Hi Catherine, We're right there with you and in the planning stages now on 12k s/f. We have a lot of 2D to keep safe, but will absolutely be storing 3D, works on paper, and rolled works as well. Currently we are talking to: Bruynzeel, SIT Spain, Crystallization Systems, and Staba Arte. All companies do work internationally so they'll be able to come to you. We've gone out and actually touched their furniture in other institutions and asked colleagues about their experiences. There are pros and cons to each. I'm happy to jump on a call to give you a quick run down. Each company is very responsive so you could reach out to them for quotes without a site visit.

Cheers,

Matt

Catherine,

We are still working with architects, but for shelving we used Tom Carmody. He is smart, knowledgeable, and has designed a system that melds our old shelving with new stuff. Of course we're still waiting for Advancement to pull the trigger, but I can't recommend him enough. He's based in MA, but works all over New England. Here's his into:

Catherine:

I suggest you contact Spacesaver - they have very nice racking/shelving - everything is custom made to suit your needs.  Ben Adamitus (708-408-5880, BAdamitus@spacesaver.com) is their museum person.

Hi Catherine,

We purchased painting storage racks from Delta/Stabe Arte in 2023 and so far, we're very happy with them. We also purchased a shelving system from Spacesaver last year and had a good experience. I'd recommend both companies.
