Hi Diane,
When it comes to appraisals (whether art or agricultural equipment), it is important to use an appraiser who follows the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP). There are no state licensing requirements for personal property appraisers. You can find a USPAP compliant appraiser by searching the members of the Appraisers Association of America (AAA), International Society of Appraisers (ISA), or American Society of Appraisers (ASA).
When it comes to machinery and equipment appraisals, the American Society of Appraisers (ASA) is going to be your best bet. Both ISA and AAA are heavily focused on art and antiques. ASA has a strong contingent of Machinery & Equipment appraisers that are likely to be a good fit for your project. I don't have any specific referrals, but it looks like I'm seeing 23 M&E appraisers in Florida. Hopefully this gives you a good jumping off point.
I am an art appraiser with both AAA and ISA based out of Detroit, Michigan. I'd be happy to discuss the project with you and answer any questions you might have about the appraisal process for institutions.
All the best,
Michelle Conliffe
