  • 1.  Vendor Metrix that Includes DEAI Criteria

    Posted 11-23-2022 12:02 PM
The Bakken Museum is working to develop a vendor selection matrix that incorporates values such as DEAI and environmental sustainability into our selection process.  As an example, this could look like:

20% - Competitive fees for goods and services
    20% - BIPOC, women, or LGBTQ+ owned
20% - Hiring practices of the vendor show a commitment to hiring BIPOC, women, LGBTQ+, or who are disabled
20% - Demonstration of local engagement
    20% - Sustainability practices

Question for the community - does your organization have something like this in place and if so, would you be willing to share it with us as an example we can learn from as we are developing our own? Any experiences or learning you would share with us as we are working on developing this matrix or you have had in implementing a similar process? Thanks in advance for your help.

My museum would also be interested in this information! It is one of our goals.

I work for the City of Alexandria government in Virginia. We use the Commonwealth of Virginia's Small Business & Supplier Diversity SWaM list (SWaM = Small, Women-owned, and Minority-owned. Designations include Small, Women-owned, Minority-owned, Micro, Service Disabled Veteran-owned, and ESO businesses.)
https://www.sbsd.virginia.gov/directory/ When we look for goods and services, the City government requires that we get quotes from SWaM businesses or justify why we have not. We are encouraged to use SWaM businesses for purchases that do not require quotes. I would check with your local and state government to see if they have a similar program. This makes it easy to find services and goods from SWaM businesses. Virginia's list allows you to look up by type of goods or services or look up by business name to see who is on the list.
