Museums as Progress is hosting an event on August 31 at noon Eastern, on the gap between what museums measure and what visitors value.
Think of a restaurant: the chef focuses on the quality of food, the staff on service, and management on revenue and cost. But the diner may have valued a conversation that the experience afforded more than any of those parts. Museums are in a similar position: Most of what visitors carry away is social, personal, and slow to surface, yet institutions measure what their experts understand and appreciate. The expertise that makes a museum valuable to some is also what can narrow who it's for.
That gap is what Martin Brandt Djupdræt, Head of R&D at Den Gamle By, examines in his recent research, and what John Falk will lead a discussion on. This is a peer discussion with small group breakouts, not a webinar. A few spots remain open. You can read the background and RSVP on the event page.
