Survey of Collection Diversity Programs

  • 1.  Survey of Collection Diversity Programs

    Posted 20 days ago
We are working to compile a list of museum Collections Management and Registration centered programs that are focused on increasing the diversity of our workforce. This project started with a program we created, the Collections Management Diversity Apprenticeship Program, which is on hold until the current grant situation changes in America. We were inspired by other programs we knew about, but we have since learned that there are many smaller programs out there. Our goal is twofold: to create a comprehensive list to help with recruitment to existing programs and to look into creating a National Diversity Apprenticeship/Internship Program. The list will be widely distributed as a living google doc to national and regional museum organizations, HBCUs, museum studies programs, Museum Hue, etc. to ensure that those looking for these types of programs can easily find all of the available opportunities.

Please fill out our survey here and share widely (with apologies for cross-posting)!

If you are a member of ARCS, please consider joining our affinity group, Diversity in Collections.

Please contact Lauren Hancock (lhancock@fieldmuseum.org) and Emma Turner-Trujillo (ettrujillo@fieldmuseum.org) with questions, comments, and suggestions.

    Best,
    Lauren

I acknowledge that I live and work on the traditional homelands of the Three Fires Confederacy: Bodéwadmik (Potawatami), Anishinaabeg (Ojibwe), and Odawak (Odawa), and of the Hoocąk (Ho'Chunk/Winnebago), Inoka (Illini Confederacy), Kiash Matchitiwuk (Menominee), Kiikaapoi (Kickapoo), Myaamiaki (Miami), Meshkwakîha (Meskwaki), Asâkîwaki (Sauk), Jiwere (Otoe), Nutachi (Missouria), and Baxoje (Iowas). I recognize and respect the many Native people who have called and continue to call Chicago home.
