    Hello,

    We are trying to put up "No Weapons" signage for our facility, but are looking for the policies and practices that are common for other museums. Does anyone have samples of the signs that they've posted, or advice based on their own experience?

    Good morning, Alana:

    When looking at samples from other museums, keep in mind that laws relating to weapons vary state to state. Some states have laws broader than federal law, and some are more restricted. 

    I represent museums in TX and CA, so unfortunately I don't have anything that would assist.

    Hi Sharon,

    Thank you for responding! As part of this project, I have looked into state laws and discussed with the local law enforcement to decide what kind of signage is necessary, I'm now looking into the more public facing side of the issue. Basically, in the range of what will cover us to help keep our visitors and staff safe, what is the common practice among other museums.

    Hi, I'm not in our facilities or security departments to be able to provide more information about the development of this signage (I'm with School Programs), but I'll include a photo of the sign we currently have displayed at our entrances to the Children's Museum of Indianapolis.
