    What is one book I should read as an emerging museum professional? I have read a few, but I wonder if I have missed anything.

    Hi Rachel,

    When I was teaching (long ago) I liked Museum Basics by Timothy Ambrose and Crispin Paine Published by ICOM and Routledge. It has a bent towards UK practice but is extremely well organised and useful.

    I had purchased it through the AAM bookshop (25 years ago!!!!, time flies)

    I would thoroughly recommend the book " Filthy Rich and Other Non Profit Fantasies" by Richard Steckel.

    If you haven't seen it, I recommend Collections Management as Critical Museum Practice (https://www.uclpress.co.uk/products/240133).  The book was designed to be a collections management textbook & features contributors from around the world.  It is open source making it very accessible.   Full disclosure, I wrote a chapter, "Public art and artefacts – who cares: caring for art and artefacts in the public realm; ethical considerations" :).

    have you read A Life in Museums, Managing your Museum Career?  Ed by Greg Stevens and Wendy Luke. Not necessarily Part 1, getting started, but Parts 2 - 4 may be useful
