  • 1.  Partnering with teacher prep / ed programs?

I would like to connect with any museum (though with special interest in history museums and sites) that have developed relationships with teacher education programs, whether university-based or alternative. The Teacher InSites group is an informal cohort of museums deeply invested in providing classroom teacher professional development, and we are partnering with the school of education at the College of William and Mary to share promising practices in museum-based teacher pd. If you are or you know of other museums that are already partnering with teacher ed programs, we would love to know about you!

    Hello Sarah,
I have been working with Miami Dade Public Schools and have partnered in their professional development programs for over 10 years. I am happy to share what and how we do it. I also collaborate with other university departments that may have grant funds to help raise the bar of the experiences.
Please feel to reach out anytime,
    Miriam

    Sarah,
I'm not sure this is what you're looking for, but here is the program (Troutbeck Symposium and this year, Troutbeck 2.0) that my school is involved with. If it seems at all like what you're looking for, maybe you, Scott and I should talk.

    Hi,
While not a museum, American Battlefield Trust has robust teacher education programs, including their annual National Teacher Institute, which grants continuing education credits. Among other resources, their curriculum makes use of their many Revolutionary and Civil War battlefield sites.

Here is a listing of all the educator programs:
    https://www.battlefields.org/learn/educators

(Full disclosure, I am currently a consultant on their The Liberty Trail.)
Please let me know if you are interested in learning more.

    Thanks for this, Claire.

From the responses I'm getting, I think I should clarify: I am looking for sites that are working closely with universities or education professors with pre-service teacher candidates or pre-service alternative teacher certification programs.

American Battlefield Trust does great work with their teacher pd programs!
