Hello,
Amy Fill, Director of the University Art Galleries, and I are in the process of updating the Oscar Howe Database maintained at the University of South Dakota. USD is also the proud home of the Oscar Howe Archives and Oscar Howe Gallery. This work is being conducted in partnership with Inge Dawn Howe Maresh and her family. Inge is the only child of Oscar and Heidi Howe. While Heidi kept detailed written records of Oscar's artworks, they didn't keep a photographic record. We are working to provide Inge and her family with images and information on artworks by Oscar that she has never seen.
Once we have established the current locations of Howe's works, we plan to create a digital and print Oscar Howe Catalog Raisonné, the first for a Native American artist.
We need your help! Would you please confirm/supply the following for all Oscar Howe works in your collection and any works you have deaccessioned?
