For memberships, we manage tiered levels tied to giving ranges - so a donor giving within a certain band gets the appropriate membership level and benefits for the year, with start/expiry dates, renewal reminders, and lapsed member re-engagement all automated. Memberships can be set up with a one-time annual payment or monthly billing, and auto-renewal can be turned on or off per member.
For pledges, a donor commits to a total amount and then makes payments toward that pledge over time. Each payment is recorded and tracked, so staff always have a clear view of what's been received and what's still outstanding. Reports can surface open pledges and total amount due across your whole portfolio.
For pledge-based memberships specifically - this can be managed in HubSpot as well. A donor pledges at a membership level and receives the membership benefits from day one. The membership/pledge are tracked on the contact record, so staff have full visibility into benefits entitlement and next payments in one place.
On your sustaining donor program - recurring giving can also be managed in HubSpot alongside memberships and pledges, so all three are visible on a single donor record. Having everything in one place makes it a lot easier to manage relationships and reporting.

We currently have a vast membership program for annual supporters that ranges from $25-$25,000. We are being encouraged to explore a pledge system for our mid-level donors and I am curious if anyone has had any experience (successful or otherwise) with pledge based annual memberships. We already do have a growing sustaining donor program so this would be in addition to that effort.
