  • 1.  Looking for Outside of the Box Volunteer Roles

    Posted 06-20-2022 09:54 AM
I'm looking for examples of non-traditional types of volunteer roles that museums are using. By non-traditional, I mean roles that extend beyond the front desk, tours, gardening, or behind-the-scenes assistance in collections.

Some of these roles might look like:
    - New ways to engage community groups
    - New virtual roles
    - Volunteer roles within departments that don't typically engage volunteers, such as: Security, Human Resources, or Executive Level
    - Any kind of new role that attracts a broad cross-section of the community

The examples will help a client that wants to expand the volunteer program understand the many options available for volunteer engagement. If you have an example to share, I'd love to learn more.

    Warmly, Elisa

Simply check in with many of the smallest museums. In their realm, pretty much everyone does everything, and most folks are volunteers.

Thanks, Lisa - very helpful, and great to see volunteers assisting in so many areas.

I'd also like to reply to James bryant's post - that's a good point about small museums relying more on volunteers. I'd love to hear from more small museums as well as larger organizations.
