  • 1.  Looking for co-presenters for AAM presentation submissions

    Posted 09-07-2023 12:40 PM

    Dear Colleagues,

I am interested in partnering up for a submission to AAM for presenting. I do not have a specific presentation but would like to develop ideas around any of the following themes. If you have an interest in collaborating please reach out.

See ideas I am interested in exploring below:

    • 3D documentation: Showcase examples of museums using 3D models to enhance visitor engagement through interactive exhibits, augmented reality (AR), or virtual reality (VR) experiences.
    • Bloomberg Connects: Discuss how institutions are using Bloomberg Connects and presenting on ways of creating engaging content
    • Future Trends in Museum Surveys: Speculate on how emerging technologies, data analytics, and changing visitor expectations may shape the future of museum surveys.
    • Collaborative Projects in 3D Documentation: Museums and Academia: Highlight successful partnerships between museums and academic institutions to conduct 3D documentation research and projects.
    • Art, Health, and Well-being, Collaborative Initiatives: Museums and Healthcare Practitioners: Share examples of partnerships between museums and healthcare providers to offer art-based interventions for patients, caregivers, and healthcare workers.
    • Art, Health, and Well-Being in Museums: Speculate on the future of art and well-being initiatives in museums, considering emerging technologies, research, and community needs.
    • Case Studies: Museums Leading in Visual Descriptions: Present case studies of museums that have excelled in providing visual descriptions, highlighting their successes, challenges, and visitor feedback.

    Hi Mark,

Happy to see your post.  Very timely as I was thinking of posting about the same thing.

I'd be very interested in partnering on a presentation proposal.  We have several augmented reality (AR) projects that would touch on several of your points above.  Also happy to bring in other colleagues working in this area that could expand and round out the panel as well if helpful.

Feel free to reach out to me here or via email.  (I'm currently traveling in Europe until Sept 17 but happy to make time to chat before then or when I'm back in the U.S.).

    Hi Mark,
I am new to the museum field, but I have been facilitating hands-on tabletop multi-sensory experiences in longterm care communities/ adult day centers for over 10 years now and now thinking it may be a good thing to share with museums interested in designing their own in house programming for adults with diverse abilities.  I would love to share more and to learn more from you.  Feel free to reach out to me at nicole@trayplay.com.

Hi Mark - I have been thinking about submitting a poster but would be happy to join you on a submission if others are interested. My plan was to share the latest "state of engagement" results from our ongoing survey of employee opinions from zoos, aquariums, and cultural institutions. It would cover things like -

    • Current levels of employee engagement and wellbeing
    • Employee perceptions of DEAI, Psychological Safety
    • Organizational culture and correlates - commitment/turnover intent, etc.

I am currently at the AZA (Association of Zoos and Aquariums) national conference and have summarized some of those findings in the attached infographic.

If you or others on this thread would be interested in collaborating, I would love to discuss.

    Kyle

    Hi there!

This is Miriam Valle-Mancilla, reaching out from Ontario Museum of History & Art (OMHA) in Ontario California, thank you for starting this thread! I'm also interested in seeking co-presenters or a co-facilitator as well on the following working title/topic; Cultural Institutions as Drivers for Inspiring the Future of Wellness & Health in our Communities through exhibition development.

I'm interested in creating a discussion around how we design our exhibits and present exhibit material through engagements techniques that inform and support the visitor to make choices about their wellness.

For example, OMHA recently opened a permanent history exhibit, Built on Water that looks at the historical, present and future of water management. The Built on Water exhibit applies curated artifacts and engagement techniques to inform the public of our social and physical well-being. The big idea for this exhibit is that access to reliable and clean water is essential to sustain communities and for our public health. We created this exhibit because we are in a drought and wanted to engage our community in conversation about this important issue. As a community, we're hosting and exhibiting conversations and readings around changes to our environment and access to clean and reliable water – Various elements of the exhibit demonstrate how we introduce these issues through museum best practices:

    • Creating Virtual Spaces: The exhibit includes a virtual reality experience and a mobile application

    • Creating Physical Spaces: Incorporating a participatory section where visitors can share their story about their relationship with water

    • Inviting the public to learn about our environment through presentations of traditional ecological knowledge and waterwise gardening demonstrations

    • Collaborating with external partners through programming that supports organizations doing this work in our community

If this resonates with anyoneI'd love to connect and partner in presenting on museum examples, experiences, exhibits of the following topics related to your counties, cities or state:

    • Exhibitions that address a local issue or national issue

    • Unique practices or exhibit engagement techniques that foster social inclusion, connection, and belonging

    • Exhibit Interpretive methods that promote reflection, resilience, and renewal
