Hi all!
We are assessing the level of interest that might be out there among museum professionals (particularly aimed at educators, but not limited to them) for a two-day conference focused on the intersections of maker-centered learning, systems thinking, and social justice in the museum context (see official description below for more context).
Please feel free to pass on the survey to your colleagues--we'd love to reach as many people as possible!
Official Description:
Since 2019, Washington, DC, has been the home of a new initiative, JusticebyDesign (JxD), started by Sarah Sheya, a researcher at Project Zero, based in the Harvard University Graduate School of Education. An outgrowth of a maker-centered learning initiative begun in DC in 2018, JxD explores the intersections of maker-centered learning, systems thinking, and social justice. A number of educators from local schools have participated in cohorts Sheya has guided for several years.
Last winter (2022), JxD and the Professional Development Collaborative offered a seminar series to museum educators from Detroit and the DC-area called JusticexDesign-Museums in Collaboration (JxD-MIX). The series provided museum educators with an introduction to, and a chance to explore, the three JxD principles: Design is not neutral. Power is multidimensional. Participation is constructed.
We are planning to hold the first-ever JxD-MIX conference in Fall 2023. The conference will provide opportunities for museum educators from across the country and world to consider applications of the JusticebyDesign framework in museum settings, to explore adaptations and new tools, and to try out critical pedagogies and practices in their respective contexts.
We truly appreciate your time and feedback, and we hope to see you at the conference!
Best Wishes,
Jim Reese, Director, Professional Development Collaborative
Sarah Sheya, Founder/Director, JusticexDesign
