My name is Jared Height, a graduate student at Sonoma State University. I am currently conducting a state-wide research study to understand and assess the current state of wildfire preparedness among museums, archives, libraries, and historic cultural sites within California.

This research aims to gather comprehensive data on how these California-based institutions have been affected by wildfires in the past and to evaluate their current preparedness for future wildfire events. This information is crucial for building a better understanding of our cultural heritage institutions' readiness against the increasing frequency of wildfires and aiding in developing more effective emergency preparedness plans.

I invite you to participate in this study by completing a survey for individuals familiar with their institution's emergency procedures and wildfire preparedness plans. Typically, this would be the Director, Facilities Manager, Head Librarian, Curator, or Collections Manager. If you fit this description or know someone who does and is based in California, I would greatly appreciate your participation or forwarding of this message.

No institution is too small to participate in this survey. Whether your institution is large or small, your input is invaluable. Even if you already have a wildfire preparedness plan in place, your participation will provide essential insights into the effectiveness and scope of existing plans across California.

The survey takes approximately 10-20 minutes to complete. All responses will be kept confidential, and no personal or identifying information will be included in the final analysis. Your input is vital in helping to safeguard our shared cultural heritage against the growing threat of wildfires.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at heightj@sonoma.edu. This study has been approved by Sonoma State University's Institutional Review Board for the Rights of Human Subjects, #3311.
