Unraveling 'Relevance'
Relevance has become a buzzword in museum discourse. But what should this fundamental term entail? Relevance to what and for whom? Especially in today's troubled world, its use implies institutional engagement with consequential environmental and/or social matters. How do effectiveness (doing the right things) and efficiency (doing things right) relate to relevance? What does institutional success in 'being relevant' look like?
Please join us for - dare we say it? - a relevant topic with an approach that considers internal and external stakeholders, strategic opportunities, and potential new ways of thinking from the world of business.
Emlyn Koster, PhD - an Earth System scientist who has been at the helm of four nature and science museums - will open a discussion on these matters at our next session of 'Museums and Change' on Thursday 22 September at 12:30 pm EDT.
