I am interested in organizing a 2027 AAM session that demonstrates the challenges and benefits of risk analysis and management from a range of perspectives. From the most detailed specifics such as:

    • singular issues, for example, how to protect objects from unwanted physical contact in minimally visitor experience disrupting ways,
    • through operational risk management as done for collection care, or for a major museum projects or events,
    • to comprehensive enterprise risk management, then beyond to social shifts and transitions and how to build ongoing resilience in the museum field.

I hope we can attract a range of participants including CEOs, COOs, and CFOs, as well as more technical folks.

I look forward to hearing from you,

    Rob

Hi Robert- I would love to join this conversation and offer my expertise if it would be helpful. As a fine art insurance broker and advisor, I offer Risk Management advice to my museum and collector clients. Its not just about an insurance policy but about contract alignment with your risk and exposure; reviewing your susceptibility to self insuring when contracts dont align; what your comfortable with and what you absolutely cannot accept. Many clients feel they are forced to have a one-sided insurance program but it should be built around your institution and your needs and work with you, Not against you.. especially when a claim arises. I guess i am more of a "technical" contributor but happy to help if i can do so!

    Hi Robert:

I am also interested. I have been an attorney for over 30 years, and have represented cultural institutions for over 10. I would be happy to discuss how contract provisions can allocate/minimize risk. Such clauses include indemnification, limitation of liability, and release/waivers, among others (and yes, insurance requirements too).
The AAM has published a couple of my articles regarding contracts:
    • How to Navigate Uncertainty Through Contract Negotiation, published by American Alliance of Museums, Exhibition (Spring 2026) vol. 45, no. 1.
    • Tips for Developing a Contract "Exit Strategy"- American Alliance of Museums · published Jan 24, 2022

Feel free to reach out to me directly!
