  • 1.  Interpretive Writing Courses for Museum Staff

Good afternoon. Does anyone know of any interpretive writing courses for museum staff, either virtual or in-person? I didn't see any such courses in the NAI catalog and am hoping other organizations or contractors might have something that you would recommend. Thank you!

    Steve

    Hi Steve,

My colleague Rosie May and I are Interpretation Specialists with a combined total of more than 40 years working in museums. We offer several presentations and workshops that focus on best practices for interpretive writing. We both come from art museum backgrounds but are very familiar with interpretive strategies for historic and natural sites.

We would be happy to schedule a Zoom call to discuss your needs and the services we offer. If you would like to chat, please feel free to email me directly at jcmadison011@icloud.com

    Many thanks,

    Jenna Madison

    Hello Steve,

NAI is teaching a Professional Development course. The information can be found here: Webinars (interpnet.com) It's going to be on Jan 31, online and it's called "Writing for a Lasting Impression."

    Best of luck,

    Jessica Runyon

    Hi Steve -

Don Enright is running an Interpretive Signs Course ("online introduction to planning, writing, and evaluating interpretive signs") in February:

    https://interpacademy.com/ldgroups/interpretive-signs-course-february-2024/

I no longer routinely offer the Interpretive Writing Intensive and Advanced Interpretive Writing workshops that I developed, but I incorporated a lot of that info into my book, "Electric Lemons: Interpretation and the Art of Writing" (available through Acorn Naturalists and Skysinger Press). I do offer both the full-length and subsets of the interp writing workshops by request, online or on-site (or hybrid); give me a shout if that's something you're interested in.

    Thanks,

    Judy
