  • 1.  Insurance Coverage for Docents

We're planning to open our organization's private collection for public tours, using volunteer docents to augment our collection managers. How do we make sure the docents are covered by our insurance? We've heard that adding "docents" to the insurance documents' declaration page is all that's needed. What do you do?

Good Morning Greg! For General Liability purposes, you will need to read the policy and see what it defines as "insureds" you are looking language that states  "volunteers while acting on behalf of the organization". Another important coverage you will want in place for any type of Volunteers is a Group Accident policy, as they are not covered on your Workman's comp. If you have one already you can add the Docent's to this or if you do not have one I would recommend looking to put one in place - they are very inexpensive! If you are not comfortable with the policy language I am happy to read through it for you! All the best.
