    Hi Everyone,

The Independent Museum Professionals network is planning a webinar on promotional tools as part of its IMPsTalk series on October 26 at 2 pm eastern time. We’d love to hear from independent museum professionals about what tools they find effective and which are not. Do you send out periodic email newsletters? Present at professional conferences? Have a separate work identity on social media? Are you still handing out business cards? Blogging?

I am looking forward to this session. A colleague taught me to identify the decision makers (not necessarily your peers and friends!) and find a way to communicate with them. So I go to directors and trustees programs at conferences.

I definitely use conferences as a consistent way to promote myself, reconnect with people, and remind them that I'm still around. Even if I'm not presenting, I put myself out there. I'm still handing out business cards...they even have my photo on them! In a time of COVID and masking, it's actually come in quite handy and people seem to remember me.

    Looking forward to this session!

I agree with what Julie wrote re: conferences and business cards.  In addition, I've forced myself (!) to put out periodic email newsletters prior to conferences I'll be attending, listing sessions I'm leading and providing overall updates to projects I'm working on.  I say force myself because it's not something I used to do before the pandemic, but have gotten great feedback from people receiving it so I guess it helps!

    Love these tips so far!
My social media is 95% for job-related postings and sharing. My Twitter handle is my business name, and I try to keep those posts to mostly work-related.

Looking forward to more sharing of tips and ideas at the webinar.
