  • 1.  In-gallery observation forms for evaluation of school groups

    Posted 02-23-2023 10:00 AM

    Hi everyone, (Sorry for cross-postings)
Looking for examples of observation forms used to evaluate school groups in the gallery for things like being on task, responding appropriately, and skills developed specific to the lesson (like analyzing a photo, etc). I have created these in the past but never liked the way the worked for me (they didn't). I find it tough to keep an accurate count of anything without using multiple forms, one for each child you observe. Is that the only way to do it?

Any ideas would be helpful! You can reply to me off list if easier.

    Thank you -
    Claudia

    Hello Claudia,

What is your "unit of analysis"? Is it a single student you observe for a certain amount of time? Or how often a behavior is occurring? Or is the activity the unit of analysis? All of this is to ask: Have you tried a single sheet, grid system (students are rows, behaviors are the columns, and the sheet is for the activity) and you can fill in the square when a behavior is observed?

Your current forms might be just fine, even if frustrating. I have been out of the evaluation world for a bit now, but if you need fresh eyes to take a look at them, I'd be happy to help.

    Best - Caren

    Caren,

That grid system sounds like it could work! I never thought to structure it that way, thank you.

The evaluation world misses you, but I'm sure the curators are enjoying your company.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.
