Hello,
I am part of a team leading work to start a new museum, the Museum of the Blind People's Movement. The museum will explore the advancements, struggles, and successes of blind people as individuals and as a movement. It will facilitate understanding of the past, stimulate awareness of the present, and encourage respect, determination, action, and equity for the future. In addition, the museum will be an example of best practices for access and inclusion.
Currently we are focused on planning and fundraising. One fundraising challenge we have found is that some potential funders will only support existing, operational museums; others are looking for projects that are shovel-ready, and we are not quite there yet. So I am curious if anyone can suggest types of funding sources and strategies for fundraising while in early planning stages for a new museum.
