Hi everyone,
We worked with Pantheon to benchmark 50 museum websites across 54 criteria: user experience, accessibility, technical performance, conversions, security. We were very surprised to find that in our scoring, homepages averaged 77.8 out of 100 while ticketing and revenue pages averaged just 57.2.
Clearly, museums have invested real effort in creating amazing homepages, and it shows. However, the pages where a visitor actually decides to buy a ticket, become a member, or donate are running signficantly behind. Layer in that 64% of traffic is now mobile and most museum sites load too slowly on mobile for a majority of visitors to see them properly.
