Asking for a friend of a friend here in the northeast (U.S) - can anyone suggest a collecting museum that might have an interest in entertaining a potential donation of dollhouses?

    Thank you!

    Betsy,

I can't speak for the Northeast, but I know there is at least one major dollhouse in the collections of the Smithsonian National Museum of American History. There is a chance that they might be interested. Either the Division of Culture and the Arts or the Division of Home & Community Life.

One of my clients may be interested or able to give you more suggestions: National Institute of American Doll Artists (NIADA)

Also to consider, not a museum, but a children's hospital may be interested in displaying some behind plexiglass.

Hi, Betsy - I have absolutely no idea if they're interested in expanding it, but the Lyman-Allyn Museum in New London, CT has quite a collection of doll houses.  Vivian

    Hi Betsy-

I would reach out to the Strong Museum of Play in Rochetser, NY. Depending on what you have, this is certainly within their mission and collecting focus.

    Hi Betsy,

There's a museum in Tucson, Arizona called the Mini Time Machine Museum of Miniatures which has a lot of doll houses.

There's a Museum of Miniature Houses in Carmel, Indiana. Also I THINK the Museum of International Folklore in Santa Fe NM includes dollhouses....? I don't know much about either one, many years since I've visited MOIF and never the Carmel one, but worth exploring.  Good luck to your friend! -- Beau Vallance

I came here to say the Museum of Miniature Houses in Carmel! I volunteered there briefly and they were regularly open to donations. They keep some for display and rotation, but also resell houses, building supplies, furniture and accessories to active miniaturists for their own collections and creations.

Also not in the NE, but there is the Denver Museum of Miniatures, Dolls, and Toys. I know they have dollhouses in their collection.  https://www.dmmdt.org/
