Hello. I am researching the feasibility of purchasing a digitized mat cutter. If you have experience with using such a machine, please let me know what brand and model you use and the pros and cons of it.

    With many thanks

Hi Marisa, I have had conversations with both Gunnar and Wizard. I liked them both, but we couldn't justify the expense and space. I had a shop that cut mats in bulk for us and they used Gunnar and it worked well for them. I hope that helps. Good luck and let us know what you choose and why.

    Best

    Matt

Basically seconding what Matt said, I worked for a framing company that used Gunnars and would recommend that brand (and I know Wizards are another common/popular option in frame shops), but it was a few years back and I was not a primary operator so I wouldn't be able to go into great detail about it. I would love to have one now, but even a used one can be $10k+, which I don't have the budget for (nor the space, realistically-- but I'd find a way to make it if someone magically dropped me some CMC money!).

If you're not aware of it already, the Picture Framer's Grumble is a framing forum that may be able to offer advice on this.

I'd love to hear what you settle on!
