  • 1.  DEAI requirements in RFPs

    Posted 09-28-2023 09:18 AM

Hello, I'm wondering if anyone has references, guidelines, or examples of Request for Proposals that include language related to DEAI practices for respondents. We're currently working on a project related to this topic and feel strongly that this is an area where we can support the subject matter, but also advance our own organizational efforts in this space.

Greatly appreciate any thoughts the community has!

    Hi Wing,

When we draft and issue RFPs for our clients, we always integrate any language and policies related to their own DEAI practices. If the organization doesn't have their own policy, at a minimum we include the following:

"The Musuem is committed to the highest possible standards for accessibility. Respondent must be capable to recommend and deliver, as appropriate, accessible, and inclusive goods and/or services consistent with the American Disabilities Act (ADA) and inclusive design best practices. The Museum desires to partner with a Respondent whose members for this project represent diverse perspectives and experiences, in order to bring a variety of voices to the process."

Rather that just include the policy, we take this a step forward and ask Respondents to articulate how they will apply their practice to the project approach while achieving these policies and initiatives in a measurable way.

Happy to chat with your further to give you more specific examples! Hope to see you at ASTC this week!
