  • 1.  Conference proposal -- Government-run Museum Professionals

    Posted 3 days ago

    Hello all!

Just wondering if there are other "government-run" museum professionals interested in collaborating in a roundtable discussion for a conference next September.  A colleague and myself are putting together a proposal, and wondering if others may be interested (outside of our state).  We're thinking of looking at specific topics such as: collections (they are not the same as filing cabinets!); financial issues (fundraising???); Staffing (or lack thereof, union membership?); and others.

This could be anyone who is working (or has worked) for a government entity--federal, state, municipal.  If anyone is interested in collaborating...let us know!  We can arrange to meet virtually.

If you are interested, you can send me an email at my home account (not gov.)  jpolsgrove@gmail.com

    Thanks in advance!

I would absolutely be interested if I'm able to get to the conference. I'm at the MS Ag and Forestry Museum that's overseen by the MS Ag and Commerce Department.

I would absolutely be interested as well. I work for St. Mary's County Maryland and run four different museums sites, two of which are in parks so there is always a question of who is supposed to do what, and one of which has a link to a state park which adds another layer of confusion...And then there is the website issue...Lots to talk about!

    Hi there!

Looks like you generated a great deal of interest! YAY!  Which conference are you considering? I work for Texas Historical Commission, a state agency that manages 40+ sites. I'm in process of transitioning out of a field services role to site management. You're welcome to add me to the list in case others can't make it.

    Take Care,
