    Hello wonderful people!
I am in need of some advice/methods/instructions on how to clean limestone. We have borrowed a cornerstone from a building dating to 1897, and I would like to clean it of scratches it received while in our care. We have permission from the loaning institution. Does anyone have any thoughts?

    Thank you!

    Hello Bonnie,

Cleaning limestone is not easy and a very specialized process, especially old limestone which has been exposed to the elements. You are more likely to do more damage than help attempting this by yourself or someone with little experience. That being said I recommend CSOS outside of Chicago, http://www.wesaveart.com/. The founder Andrzej Dajnowski is a leader in the world of stone and metal conservation.

    Good luck!

Thank you! This is why I asked the question. I don't really want to touch it, but the curator wants to do something so the more resources the better!
