Books: Any Noteworthy Additions in Your Collection?

  • 1.  Books: Any Noteworthy Additions in Your Collection?

    Posted 03-01-2024 03:23 PM

This post is all about books!

I'm interested in learning about any recent or notable books you've encountered, whether within your museum's collection or through your professional or personal explorations. What have you discovered lately that stands out, and why does it hold significance for you or your institution? Whether it's a rare find, a groundbreaking research publication, or a book that complements your interests or museum's mission, please share your insights. Your contributions will broaden our collective perspective on the resources that enrich our field and our understanding of culture and history.

By sharing these discoveries, we not only enrich our own knowledge but also foster a sense of community and shared curiosity. I look forward to reading about your fascinating finds and the stories they carry into our collective experience.

PS: Drop a reply below if you would want to be part of a book club this year?

I'd recommend Blaise Aguera y Arcas, Who Are We Now? This is a compendium of recent research on Americans, and it is highly informative about new trends in demography, society, economy, and politics. If you want to learn more about your current and prospective audiences--and to think harder and deeper about them--this book is worth browsing.

I also recommend A Legal Primer on Managing Museum Collections by Marie Malaro and Ildiko DeAngelis as well as Museum Registration Methods 6th edition.  A living History Anthology is great for those of us managing Historic Sites.

    Hi Grace,

There are two notable books, I believe still the only books regarding visitor dining, catering and related topics and in museums and cultural institutions. Below is one of the links but both books can be sourced at Amazon by entering 'Manask Books'. AAM Bookstore used to sell them and have at Bookstore at annual meeting. That stopped years ago. No, I do not make any dollars from the sale of the books, never have and just wanted al to know they are there and available. The 2nd book is  Restaurants, Catering and Facility Rentals, Maximizing Earned Income. Hope this is helpful for institution leadership that oversees these areas which is why i was involved with the writing and cost of the books as the Museum world had nothing to read or source in this regard.

    Thanks,

    Art

    Hi All

A book club does sound fun. I have a book called Change id Required about museums. I find it has a lot to say. For fun I read a lot of nonfiction on many subjects.

    Thanks,
