  • 1.  Board Specific Code of Ethics Policy and Conflict of Interest

    Posted 11-27-2018 07:37 AM
    Dear Colleagues:

I'm investigating drafting a Code of Ethics Policy and Conflict of Interest Statement both of which would be specific to the museum's board of trustees.  If you have a code of ethics policy and conflict of interest statement that are board specific (or any advice) and are willing to share, I would be greatly appreciative.  Please send any related documents to pbochy@thewestmoreland.org.

Thank you so much for considering and any help you offer.

    Best,

    Hello Patrick,

The New England Museum Association has a document library with various policies, including codes of ethics, that member museums have shared. Perhaps other organizations have similar libraries, and there is information on AAM's website about such things as well. Here is the link to NEMA's information. New England Museum Association :: Museum Document Exchange

Good luck with the project; it is certainly an important document to have and for board members to adhere to.

    Greetings Patrick,

Have you asked the Association of Art Museum Directors (AAMD)?   They publish a lot of material and I would be surprised if they didn't have what you're looking for.   The Westmoreland is a member so they should be of help.

I hope all is going well with you and the Westmoreland.

    Regards,
    Freda

    Good morning Patrick,

As a Tier 3 member of the Alliance, the Westmoreland has access to AAM's online sample documents library.

Please use the following link to get to the sample documents library: http://ww2.aam-us.org/resources/information-center/sample-documents

From our homepage, use the drop-down menu About Museums>Resource Library then select Sample Documents from the left side bar from the Resource Library page.

Also refer to the Required Elements for Code of Ethics on our website (Institutional Code of Ethics); the museum's code must be a single document that states it applies to board, staff and volunteers.

    All the best,
