Our museum does not charge admission and we have an old-fashioned donation box near the door.  One of our visitors came in and he said that some  museums have a charge card scanner for donations.  Does anyone out there have one?  What companies sell them?  How do they work?  This sounds like a great idea since many people don't carry much cash anymore.

Chat with your bank. They can give you a quote on rates. Then compare it with square. Square is very easy to use but charges about 3%.

You might consider a sign in your Museum Store asking if visitors want to "round up" and/or put the suggestion that donations may be made in the Store on your donation box.

KMAC Museum uses Dipjar - it's at our front desk and is what we use for admission, membership, donation bars, raffle tickets, etc. etc

I was just going to suggest the same thing. We use these for general donations (next to our traditional cash donation boxes) as well as for "suggested donations" for specific activities during public programs (eg. face painting).
