  • 1.  Visitor Code of Conduct

Does your institution have a written Code of Conduct that staff can point to--either on your website, signage, or on tickets--as a resource to enforce policies regarding appropriate behavior? We are considering making our current visitor guide more complete and clear, and to account for those rare situations in which a visitor may be asked to leave.

Great idea!  We need one, as well ... not for our students so much, but so-called "adults!"

    Hi Catherine!

We created a Code of Conduct in the summer of 2019. We have this printed in our map/guide that visitors receive upon arrival and on our website, and have signage in a few locations. We've found that this is helpful for our staff to be able to mention if they encounter disruptive behavior. Here's a look at the language we used:https://www.portdiscovery.org/conduct

    Hello Catherine,

Great question! We're also looking at ways to more effectively communicate our rules for visitor etiquette. Our website's FAQ section, specifically under "policies" and "family visit" has some good guidelines. We're working on friendly ways to remind visitors of some basic museum-going etiquette, so I'd love to hear how other institutions communicate their code of conduct.
