    Hello all,
Does anyone have experience with preserving historic swimming pools? Before my time a 2 part epoxy was applied to the interior but needs to be replaced. Some local experts have advised using a coating of marcite instead. Any suggestions?

    Thank you,
     Brent

    Hello Brent,

Check out @vintagetilepreservation on Instagram. He specializes in preservation of 1910s-1950s tile, but he might have some insight into swimming pools, and he travels widely. You might also check in with the folks at Hearst Castle, since they have two historic swimming pools.

Perhaps this would be a useful lead: on elf the oldest functioning swimming pool I've had the pleasure of using is at the Wagon Hotel in Yosemite National Park. Perhaps folks that maintain that pool (assuming it's still there) could give you a hand.

    Hi,
Maybe someone from Parks Canada with the Canadian Rockies Hot Springs might be able to give you good advice.

Hi Brent!  You might consider contacting the staff at Hearst Castle in CA.  They have a very famous swimming pool that they've maintained for decades. Their contact info is on their website.

    Hi Brent,
This comes from my colleague. Her family works with an engineering firm in Florida that specializes in restoration and waterproofing.

Normal pool finishes are a cementitious type material with colored aggregate. Trade names would be Florida Stucco, Diamonbrite, Pebble Tec. That would be our recommendation.  You can also install tile throughout the entire pool. Regards, Evan Swaysland, PE, ME

The Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina, has an indoor swimming pool. They have an in-house conservation department, so they might have some good suggestions.
