Frankly, if we as professionals are seriously interested in the future of our institutions, we ought to be thinking about "strategic thinking," a continuous process of strategizing, rather than about traditional strategic plans. Most strategic plans are developed and then ignored and are typically long out of date by the time we turn to the next strategic plan. Next practice suggests that we create ongoing processes for addressing our strategic issues serially, making strategy ;a constant in our visioning and practice, rather than a project every three, four or five years.
