  • 1.  Museum Admission via AAM membership

Has it occurred to AAM that individual museums should be the arbiter in deciding whether they will extend courtesy  admission to AAM members?
It is also worth remembering that most museum visitors also purchase items in the gift shop, purchase food, if available, and increase attendance numbers that are useful tools when applying for grants.

Perhaps the issue is lack of representation.  If we senior citizens are "out of sight" we can  also unintentionally be given less consideration than other marginalized populations in more high profile by those that send letters like the one I received that started this thread  in the first place..

As one gets older, sometimes disability issues interfere with one's ability to advocate for oneself, precluding some from pursuing issues like museum admission that one would otherwise chase.  How can  consciousness be raised about senior citizen and/or disabled museum visitors?

Is there a way of taking advantage of pre-existing ,museum structures to achieve this goal?  What about the new personnel category of DEAI Officers?  Join me in urging AAM to survey its member institutions to identify how many of its membership museums' DEAI officers self-identify as disabled or 55+.
