Online family art programs - looking for recommendations

  • 1.  Online family art programs - looking for recommendations

    Posted 04-01-2020 04:14 PM
    Hello everyone -

I hope that you all are staying healthy, safe and sane during these extraordinary times.

I am putting together a resource of family art programs and am reaching out to the community to see if anyone wants to point me to their institution's programming or share a resource they stumbled on. I am hoping to put together a wide range of collections and activities from across the globe.

    I truly appreciate the help!

    Thanks,
    Liz

PS: As I am compiling a Google doc, please LMK if you would like access to my findings.

Hi there! I Hope you and yours are happy and healthy as well. Please take a look at the National Gallery of Art's online resources. Our education department has done a fantastic job of creating many resources for teachers and families that I think you might find useful.

    Liz,

Check out the Getty Museum's website. I just saw it in the Smithsonian Magazine daily blog. They have posted masterpieces and have asked people to recreate them at home using household objects. Quite amazing what people have come up with. It may not be exactly what you are looking for, but it is worth checking out for sure.

    Hello,

The Burchfield Penney Art Center is working on adding content weekly at: https://www.burchfieldpenney.org/

Although the Burchfield Penney is closed to onsite visitors, we're excited to bring you online programs. They include home-education projects, conversations about our exhibitions and collections, artist interviews and more. Look for new posts each Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday with activities for the whole family. Thank you for staying in touch while staying at home. And until we can all be together again, stay safe.

Facebook and Instagram postings include family #BPACsketch of the week:  This week was "What's in your refrigerator?" and artists in our community were asked to design a coloring page to be posted for families.

    Thank you,

    Kathy

    Hi Liz,

I had started building a small database of activities and resources via Airtable, just based on things I have seen online or been recommended to me (since i was curious to see how other institutions were responding/engaging with their audiences).

It's not very large and I need to clean it up a little bit, but this link should allow you to see it without an account. https://airtable.com/shrWWpPRBzrFTeSig

    Hello everyone -

Thank you for your excellent suggestions. I have just started compiling resources in a Family programs Google spreadsheet. But, to be honest, Chelsea Trinh's Airtable is far superior. Wowza! What an amazing resource! Thank you Chelsea for sharing your hard work.

A word about the Google spread sheet:
This is a LIVE document. You may add more resources if you like, but please include your contact info in the "submitted by" column or reach out to me directly. I will try to add resources as I find them. I am still looking for online activities around the globe. If you have suggestions, please email me.

    Be well,

    Hello yet again -

I have added tabs to the Google spread sheet to include global programming and home activities from organizations such as VTS and the Beam Center. There's wonderful programming out there. I have thoroughly enjoyed combing the web looking for it.

Again, my Google doc is live, so please populate it. Don't forget to add your name in the "submitted by" area.

Please know that I am working on this while teaching, so it's a slow and steady type of thing.

    Best,

    Hi all,

I have really enjoyed browsing all of the great materials that everyone have been sharing on this thread. At the Wende Museum in Culver City, our Education program is somewhat newly established, and this time of closure has been an opportunity to expand our online offerings of family-focused art activities and explorations into the Collection. Our materials can be found on our website here: http://wendemuseum.org/content/wendeonline

We have also begun a conversation with area school districts about how to best accommodate their virtual classroom experience. This may include a computer-based virtual-reality experience in which the students complete a challenge involving to our collection items. I will share when that experience goes live.
