Museums with Recent Expansions that Included Education Spaces

    Greetings!

I am hoping to gather a cohort of individuals who have gone through recent expansion initiatives at their institutions. At the O'Keeffe, we are in the process of a major expansion effort (see article below). We've done some amazing work thinking through what this museum of the future will be, but we would really like to hear from museums and museum professionals who have done this already - particularly those who have re-thought their Education spaces in a major way. What worked? What didn't? What would you have done differently, if you had it to do over again? All the way down to, what furniture did you buy, and flooring? What is holding up? What conversations did you have, or wish you would have had, with your community?

We'd love to pick your brain - if you have time to do this formally, we'd like to gather a group formally (in a virtual setting) in a couple months as well. Please post or reach out. klatka@okeeffemuseum.org

The new building, once a Safeway grocery store, is just around the corner from the museum's current home in Santa Fe, N.M., and is about 47,000 square feet bigger. For nearly 25 years, Georgia O'Keeffe, an iconic American modernist painter, has been honored in a museum that is not much bigger than two tennis courts.
