Speakers on Community Engagement

    Hello,

Our history and art museum in Upstate New York is forming a Community Engagement Committee with diverse community leaders participating along with several board and staff members.  Our goals include increasing our relevance and value to diverse communities and audiences and strengthening the representation of their cultural heritage at the museum.  We also seek to contribute more robustly to the region's heritage tourism.

We have been researching a possible speaker for our first meeting this fall and would like to consult Museum Junction participants as well. Does anyone have a suggestion for a very good speaker who can create a common knowledge base for us? Topics include: Why are museums making community engagement an important focus and how are they doing it?  How are terms defined?  What are successful examples of mutually beneficial relationships and partnership?  What are the challenges?  What internal changes may be necessary?

    Your suggestions are most appreciated.
