We have had a penny press with our historic sites on it for several years.  We don't own the press, and it's serviced by the company.  Do any of your sites have experience with penny presses? Do you own  or receive a cut from the company?  We are looking to re-sign our contract and are unsure if we are getting a low percentage.

    Thanks,
    Sarah

Sarah, we have the same sort of set up at Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation: our partner--The Penny Men of CTM Group--service and split the proceeds. In our case, the cut is 50/50. Hope that helps,

    Hello all,

We do not have a penny press, but getting one has been discussed for the last few years.  Can you tell me if they're worth it?  Can anyone recommend a company?

    Many thanks,

    Chris

Are they financially worth it for your institution? Basically, you're getting money in exchange for a couple square feet of floor space that you probably weren't using anyway.

But a souvenir with your name or logo on it for 51 cents? The chance for visitors who might not be in a position to buy more expensive merch in your gift shop to get something to remember you by? Judging by the popularity of these machines at virtually every site I visit, it's worth every (smashed) penny!

We have them in all of our venues.  Many people will buy every penny available and then head to the gift shop to get a collectors book.

We like our set up and have found that there is a very loyal clique of visitors who are avid collectors. In fact, we will be getting a medallion machine soon. Some have the option of using a credit card in addition to the traditional two quarters. A sign of the times . . .

We work with The Penny Men, a division of CTM Group. easy to find online. They are good to work with as far as generating reports, customizing the machine with your images, etc.

    Good luck!

I have bought a penny press for the museum I presently working at and the previous museum. Both times the experience have been great. We have collectors come specifically for the machine. It is easy money. I don't know about a contract. We have bought ours and own it so all of the money comes to us.

We've had ours for a little over a year and our guests love it.  We offer our visitors four images to choose from.  We bought ours from Penny Press USA for a little over $4500.00.  Jon is our point of contact, 970-731-1073.  jon@coincrafters.com.
