Inside the Acid Free Box: A Behind the Scenes Look at the female founders of Holocaust Museum LA
The first survivor-founded Holocaust museum in the US, Holocaust Museum LA was originally founded in 1961 by a group of survivors that wanted a place to memorialize the people they had lost and help educate the public so that no one would ever forget. These survivors each had a photograph, document or personal item from before the war, which would go on to become the foundation of the vast archival collection that the Museum holds today. Among that original group of Holocaust survivors, were two women - Esther Przeworski Pratt and Masha Loen. Each a trailblazer in their own right, these two women were dedicated to educating the public about the Holocaust, keeping this history alive at a time when few were willing to discuss it.
In honor of women's history month, join our Vice President of Education & Exhibits, Jordanna Gessler, and our Collection Manager, Christie Jovanovic, as they explore the histories of each of these unique women, taking a closer look at some of the artifacts that bring to life their amazing personal stories of strength and resilience.
