I work for an art museum and we are considering moving to a digital membership app. Has anyone had a positive or negative experience with this that they could share? Thanks!

We moved to a digital membership card about 2 years ago. It is a savings on paper, ink, postage, etc. No reprinting lost cards, and can keep track if guest passes were used. The member can download their membership within seconds of joining online or over the phone. It is great having the card and guest passes accessible on the app. Downside is getting members on board to use it. We still have folks that do not have smart phones or don't use apps. We then will email them their card and passes. It really helped having the app during the pandemic, since we were not in the office and did not have access to printers at home to be printing out cards. We use the eMembership app.

We just went digital with WildApricot (also known as Personify), although we'll still be issuing paper cards as well for our older members who don't do the whole internet thing yet.  So far it's been great, although admittedly we just started using it a few months ago.

When I researched digital membership platforms this one was almost always ranked the highest, and I'm sure you've done similar research so I won't go into all the specifics but one of the biggest advantages for us (and made it easier to justify the annual cost) is that you can actually build and host your website for free on their platform.  We already had a decent website but it was getting about time for an upgrade anyways, and by doing it on their platform everything is integrated--no more dealing with separate plugins for sales, event registration, social media posts, etc.  It's all there and works seamlessly.  And cutting our third party hosting fees helped justify the annual subscription for WA.

    Hi Heather,

We've had a digital membership card since 2014. We use PassEdge because it's tied into the ticketing system we use - Gateway Ticketing's Galaxy system. This app is awesome because it's not only the digital membership card, it's also the digital map, an easy way for our members to share their tickets with friends/family, it's multi-lingual, there are interactive/engagement opportunities like scavenger hunts and more. I highly encourage you check them out - especially if you're using Galaxy for your ticketing/POS. https://www.passedgeapp.com/

    Hi Heather,

I'd welcome you to take a look at Cuseum's digital membership cards. We've been creating digital cards for years and have sent several million cards on behalf of our many customers. No app download necessary, and they go straight into the Apple Wallet and Google Pay.

If you are still in the research phase, you may also enjoy our free online membership academy, which has tons of resources including surveys from membership leaders sharing their digital transformation plans, digital adoption best practices, guides on how to be successful in your digital membership launch, as well as many other helpful articles.

Lastly, feel free to also join us on Membership Mondays, our free webinar series where we dive into all things membership. Here is a link to our next episode, which is actually on Tuesday, so as not to interfere with AAM Virtual! Link to register here: Re-engaging, Recapturing, and Rebuilding Your Membership Base

    Hope this helps!
