Hi!
We use
Eventbrite for both our free and paid registrations. You can set up multiple dates/sessions and you can have different types of tickets within each. There is a service fee for paid tickets but if you're only using it for free ticketing/registration then the service is free. It has worked out quite well for us and has a user-friendly interface.
If you would like to check out our eventbrite links as a sample, you can see them
here.
A good example for what you are trying to do may be our nature walk/snowshoe tour signup page, found
here.

Subject: Family Programs Registration System
Hello!
We are using an out-of-the-box system for families to register for our free art workshops. Our current system just isn't working for us, with staff spending up to 4 hours a day following up with families who have mad mistakes in their registration. Our needs are specific and the product we are currently using cannot be customized further as there aren't enough other users with similar needs to make it worth for the company to customize.
For example, we have multiple sessions of each class (sometime as many as 16 sessions). Kids and adults participate together and workshops are age specific, so families must register adults and kids. Adults often miss that they have to register themselves, so we have hold extra space and wait to find out how many adults are coming. Also, families cannot cancel or alter their registration themselves.
Does anyone have a registration system/company that they work with that they love? Something that is willing to customize (for a fee of course)? We've looked at companies that work with libraries, community centers and universities. If our situation seems similar, we would love to know what is working for you.
Best,
