Admission stickers vs. badges

  • 1.  Admission stickers vs. badges

Does anyone have positive experiences to report with admission stickers or other alternatives to badges? We currently use small plastic hang-tag badges for our visitors to wear while onsite; naturally, quite a few are not returned to the "badge baskets" we put around our facility at exits.  We're looking for a cost-effective and visitor-friendly replacement.  I'd appreciate any suggestions you might have.

    Thanks!

Stickers don't always stick to clothing.  You will find stickers on the floor, stuck to wall, signs and other areas they shouldn't.

Hand stamps with "Phillips Logo" can be a viable and inexpensive alternative.

On our special event weekends we use plastic wristbands similar to what a hospital uses. They are relatively inexpensive and highly visible.  We use a different color each day of the event. The downside is that it requires that someone put it on the individual coming in. We can have 2000 people a day during these events. We have 3 registers collecting admissions and another 2 or 3 people dedicated to snapping on the wrist bands. We have never had any complaints from our visitors. They can be unsnapped (a little tricky) or simply cut after the visit is over. Some wristbands cannot be reused which is a plus. We use solid colors but they can be imprinted with your institution's logo.
    We use National Ticket Company.

We use admission stickers without problems. Sure, they occasionally fall off, etc, but overall it's easy to print in house and inexpensive. We also have a special "pirate kitty" sticker for kids that they love.

Good Morning! We use admission stickers for all of our group visitors and they do fall off or get stuck to walls or exhibit devices. All of our individual visitors receive a paper wristband. Both are imprinted with our logo and institution name, and several different colors are used on a rotating basis.

We use wristbands. We can color code them by the day and by the group in order to more easily identify visitors. They are inexpensive. We have bar codes which identify visitors at interactive stations in galleries. Eventually, we hope to move to RFID instead of barcodes for better visitor tracking and delivery of digital media.

Boscobel house and gardens has used stickers for years and they seem to work well.  Our admission desk folks caution against sticking them to leather or suade.  Our visitors have no difficulty with them.  They do very occasionally fall off.  One off-site plus happens when people forget to remove them and they are seen in shops and restaurants in town.  This, of course, reinforces the economic role Boscobel plays here.

One downside of stickers is that people do forget they're wearing them, and then when they notice, they tend to stick them on public infrastructure nearby the museum (electrical boxes, light posts). Depending on your setting, this may or may not become a nuisance.

We use stickers at the Metal Museum.  My suggestion is to get a larger sticker (more surface area = more stick and visibility).  Our stickers are maybe 1/2" circles, and we often find ones that have fallen off on the floors or grounds.  We actually don't have too many issues with people purposefully sticking their used stickers where they don't belong.  We use a local company and the stickers just have our logo on them.

If you choose to use stickers, you can encourage the exiting visitors to place their sticker on a board of some sort, one that indicates their "vote" on the question asked.  This will 1) remind them to remove the sticker before going out in public, 2) shape their behavior to one that is appropriate rather than potentially damaging (placing stickers on public infrastructure as Michelle mentioned), 3) and provide feedback for the museum.

I recommend a grid set-up on the board so that people place stickers in individual spaces instead of overlapping or piled up which makes the assessment part of this impossible.

Our museums and the national parks next door all use stickers, and front line staff are constantly picking them up. For special events we sometimes use wristbands; they're more expensive than stickers, but they stay put and don't leave marks on your visitors' clothes.
